The Director will oversee the management, reliability, and provision of all research and academic properties in support of the mission of the Academic Enterprise and in alignment with the mission of UTMB. This position is responsible for compliance with various accrediting agencies and authorities having jurisdiction, including AAALAC, CDC, GLP, NIH, USDA, SAC, State Fire Marshall, and TCEQ. The Director will also oversee Operations and Maintenance services, including environmental services, grounds and landscaping, contract management, waste management, emergency management, and maintenance activities.

  • Work closely with Deans, Chairs, Principal Investigators, bio-containment safety personnel, and other faculty and leadership to achieve program priorities and objectives with a focus on customer service.
  • Develop, direct, and oversee specialized focus teams in Electrical, HVAC, Building Automation Systems, Plumbing, and Waste Management.
  • Maintain, defer, and renew capital assets of all Health System, Academic Enterprise, and Institutional Support facilities.
  • Create and implement department policy in alignment with accrediting agencies.
  • Develop, direct, and oversee emergency management plans for natural and unplanned risks to UTMB facilities and operations.
  • Assist the Associate Vice President of Property Services in department leadership and budget management.
  • Act as an owner’s representative in the direction of internal and external planners, architects, engineers, and specialty consultants for capital projects.
  • Oversee and ensure readiness of all research and academic space in accordance with accrediting agencies.
  • Manage to measurable targets and provide a development strategy for staff.
  • Provide a measurable quality management program including assurance, control, and process improvement activities.
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities, Business or related field.
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a manager in a facilities management related role.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant program.
  • Seven years’ experience at a director level in an Academic Institution with significant research activity, especially in BSL-2 through BSL-4 environments.
