The Program Director for the Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program in Norton, Virginia, is a pivotal role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the effective administration and operation of the residency program. The Program Director will be accountable for various aspects including teaching, scholarly activity, resident recruitment and selection, evaluation and promotion of residents, and disciplinary actions. This position requires a commitment to resident education within the context of patient care, serving as a role model of professionalism and integrity. The Program Director will be responsible for reporting accurate and complete information as required by the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Participation in academic societies and educational programs is essential to enhance both educational and administrative skills. The role also involves active participation in curriculum development, resident teaching and evaluation, continuous program improvement, and faculty development. In addition, the Program Director will design and conduct the residency program in alignment with the community's needs and the missions of both the Sponsoring Institution and the residency program. A key aspect of this role is to foster a learning environment that promotes the ACGME competencies and to oversee the evaluation process for candidates prior to their approval as program faculty members. The Program Director will guide annual faculty evaluations and ensure that the learning environment meets the program's standards. Furthermore, the Program Director will promote compliance with the Sponsoring Institution's policies regarding grievances, due process, and non-discrimination, ensuring a supportive environment for residents. This position requires a dedication of no less than 20 hours per week to administrative and educational activities, supported by the institution, while supervising and delegating responsibilities to Core Faculty and other faculty members.
