About The Position

The Program Director position at Syracuse University is a newly established role within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), aimed at expanding the college's programming at the Fisher Center, which serves as Syracuse University's academic hub in New York City. The Fisher Center boasts 20,000 square feet of state-of-the-art teaching facilities and currently supports the Department of Drama's signature Tepper Semester. This unique program provides undergraduate students in advanced levels of acting, casting, design, directing, dramaturgy, musical theater, playwriting, producing, stage management, and theater management with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a rigorous artistic curriculum. In alignment with the University's Strategic Plan, which emphasizes sending students abroad and away, the NYC Program Director will collaborate with chairs and directors from the college's residential schools and departments, including Art, Design, Drama, Music, Communication & Rhetorical Studies, and Film and Media Arts (FMA). The primary responsibilities will include not only the expansion of the Tepper Semester but also the design and delivery of immersive academic programs and internship opportunities in New York City. These initiatives will cater to all VPA students, students from other Syracuse University schools and colleges, as well as non-Syracuse University partner institutions. The role will encompass the development of semester-long, summer-long, and short-term programs that will attract both currently enrolled students and non-Syracuse University students. A critical aspect of this position will be the management of the program to ensure operational effectiveness and fiscal sustainability.
