About The Position

The Program Director II, Mentorship & Careers will lead and oversee BGCDC’s Middle School Mentorship & Career Exploration Initiative, designed to engage youth in grades 6 – 8 in early career awareness, goal-setting, and relationship-based mentorship. This role is responsible for building and maintaining strong community partnerships, coordinating mentor recruitment and training, developing youth-facing career exploration programming, and managing data-driven program evaluation. The Program Director will ensure the successful planning, implementation, and growth of this initiative, aligning it with BGCDC pathways for high-school-aged youth and long-term work-based learning opportunities. The Program Director is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties assigned to support the overall objectives of the organization. This position is grant funded by the McKenzie Foundation for one year- 2/1/2026-1/27/2027.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in youth development (planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people)
  • Previous experience working with teens and/or work-based learning programs.
  • Proven track record of effectively organizing, managing staff or volunteers, and overseeing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Middle School Mentorship Program including career awareness activities, small group and cohort experiences, and personal career portfolios.
  • Recruit, train, and support mentors in collaboration with community partners
  • Develop and deliver mentor onboarding and training to ensure impactful, outcomes-focused engagement.
  • Coordinate cohort-based youth recruitment processes and maintain appropriate caseloads of participants.
  • Create clear communication systems for schedules, pick-ups/drop-offs, and updates to families and staff.
  • Integrate career exploration events, job shadowing experiences, and potential work-based learning opportunities into program models.
  • Ensure data-driven decision-making through quarterly evaluations, surveys, and outcome tracking.
  • Contribute to creating a positive Club atmosphere for youth development, involving program collaboration, attendance, implementation of BGCDC membership requirements, and participation in regular meetings
  • Lead infrastructure development including mentor agreements, transportation planning, and marketing strategy.
  • Track and report on weekly attendance and membership goals
  • Develop and implement a transportation schedule aligned with youth participation needs and mentor availability.
  • Maintain an environment that is supportive to volunteers and sustains partnerships with community organizations.
  • Develop and maintain formal partnerships with external organizations to support mentor recruitment, training, and youth career exploration experiences.
  • Secure mentor commitments using partnership agreements and manage ongoing communication and relationship development.
  • Collaborate with BGCDC departments and school district partners to establish data-sharing, recruitment, and support systems.
  • Collaborate regularly with partners to report program information, ensure alignment on goals and progress, and coordinate on how to best support members
  • Engage local middle schools and school districts to align on data sharing, recruitment priorities, and intervention strategies for youth not currently served by BGCDC.
  • Build bridges to BGCDC high-school pathways for long-term mentorship and paid work-based learning opportunities.
  • Lead and develop annual programming plan.
  • Supervise and ensure recruitment of new membership when applicable.
  • Create and manage comprehensive mentor recruitment & retention strategy.
  • Develop materials for early career exploration portfolios and post-secondary readiness benchmarks.
  • Plan program scale and sustainability strategies based on benchmarked outcomes.
  • Engage in future planning to expand program work-based learning and paid internship pathways
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Support Boys & Girls Clubs special events as assigned.
  • Engage in professional development and learning opportunities relevant to role
  • Consult with families concerning member and Club issues as needed.
  • Assist in creating annual budget.
  • Responsible for tracking and implementation of expense tracking.
