The Program Director at the Herbert Simon Family Foundation will play a crucial role in managing grantees, overseeing the grant application process, and fostering community partnerships. This position serves as a public representative of the foundation, collaborating closely with the Executive Director to enhance external relationships and ensure a positive experience for applicants and grantees. The Program Director will also work with the Board of Directors to support the foundation's mission of promoting equity and sustainability in Central Indiana.

  • Support the Executive Director in the development and growth of the foundation's programming, grantmaking, and strategy.
  • Oversee workflows in all grantmaking processes, including managing inbound grant inquiries from nonprofit organizations.
  • Oversee grant application process and timelines, reviewing applications and budgets, and making recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • Review and assess grant reports of grantee organizations.
  • Maintain existing grantee relationships and support organizations in their growth and development.
  • Develop authentic relationships with community partners, grantees, and peer funders.
  • Convene stakeholders, form strategic partnerships, and recommend proactive investments in systems change.
  • Prepare board packets and meeting materials for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure grantmaking strategies and practices are equitable and promote social justice.
  • Collaborate on the development of new strategic initiatives and community programs.
  • Lead existing special projects and community workshops.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in nonprofit, public, or philanthropic sectors.
  • Strong understanding of ethics and confidentiality standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and workload prioritization skills.
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills; ability to research and analyze data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Ability to organize, facilitate, and manage projects and meetings efficiently.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
  • Experience in grantmaking or community engagement.
  • Familiarity with social justice issues and community development.
