About The Position

The Senior Program Counselor at the Drop-In Center is responsible for teaching skill building and holistic wellness courses to support the recovery needs of individuals who have experienced psychiatric symptoms. This role fosters a collaborative and safe recovery environment, provides safe transportation for service participants, and oversees educational and social activities at the Peer Support Center or off-campus. Additionally, the Senior Program Counselor is responsible for providing meals and snacks during operating hours, managing paperwork, and creating monthly reports and activity calendars.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Self-identified as being in recovery from either a mental illness, a substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorders of both.
  • Eligible to gain Certified Peer Recovery Specialist status in Tennessee.
  • Must have been a consumer of mental health or substance abuse services.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license with an F endorsement or a commercial license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage.
  • Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and guidance to students throughout the structured day at the Peer Support Center.
  • Is motivated to work independently but is also supportive of other staff in the Peer Support Center.
  • Is able to work in an organized fashion, planning ahead and keeping up with duties and records.
  • Facilitates, implements, and evaluates program goals.
  • Responsible for fostering and maintaining a safe program environment.
  • Completes required paperwork used in the daily operation of the program and documents in the member files in an objective and competent manner.
  • Attends training as required and supports Peninsula functions.
  • Presents a professional image, both in appearance and delivery of services.
  • Is punctual and prepared to perform any and all duties and responsibilities.
  • Meets with program supervisor as needed for supervision and guidance and to keep manager appraised of any student concerns.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Local travel required.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
