About The Position

The Program Coordinator is part of the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center in the Student Affairs division at Vanderbilt University and is a key contributor responsible for programs, events, and initiatives within the office. This position works with campus and community partners to design, coordinate, and deliver events and initiatives related to women, sexuality, and gender equity for the Vanderbilt community. The program coordinator also serves as an advisor to student interns housed in the Women’s Center and provides relevant resource referrals to Vanderbilt community members. Reporting directly to the Director of the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center, the program coordinator collaborates most frequently with the professional and student staff within the Women’s Center as well as the other offices in the Belonging and Communities cluster within Student Affairs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of women’s and gender equity issues both within and beyond a higher education environment is required.
  • Excellent decision-making and time management skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating programs and initiatives related to women, sexuality, and gender equity broadly is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing students is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of comprehensive and inclusive sexual health education is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal/human relations skills including ability to develop and cultivate professional relationships is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds attending a highly selective institution with a broad range of campus groups, departments, and organizations is preferred.
  • Experience with event planning and event management skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver university-wide events related to women’s and gender issues for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Oversee logistics for large-scale events, such as the Cuninggim Lecture in the fall, the Women’s History Month Kickoff in March, and the annual awards celebration lunch in April.
  • Execute programming in a coordinated and logistically sound manner to maximize impact. This includes but is not limited to securing reservations and catering, developing marketing materials and timelines, submitting events to relevant calendars, and creating assessments.
  • Update the website and design marketing materials, including those for Women’s History Month.
  • Utilize office listservs, social media accounts, and marketing materials to tell a compelling and accurate story of the work of the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center at Vanderbilt to drive engagement.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate student interns and members of student groups, such as the Bold Space, Vandy Sex Ed, and Women’s Center Ambassadores.
  • Meet with students to provide information about campus and community resources, support, and referrals.
  • Represent the Women’s Center at various events, on committees, and at other meetings.
  • Contribute to the broader mission and objectives of Student Affairs and the University by serving on divisional and institutional committees, task forces, and working groups.
  • Actively participate in key divisional initiatives and events, including Move-In Day and all-division meetings and gatherings.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant university policies, procedures, and systems—such as those related to travel, procurement, expense, and time reporting—to ensure effective, compliant, and responsible operations.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative spirit by supporting divisional colleagues and engaging in efforts that advance shared goals and strategic priorities.
