The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) provides for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and maintains and enhances the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of City residents. DOT's Bike Share & Shared Mobility unit is responsible for planning, oversight, and management of the Citi Bike program, dockless e-scooter and e-bike-share services, and other emerging micro mobility-share services. Under the direction of senior program staff, this candidate will be responsible for performing tasks required to identify technically viable sites for potential bike share and shared mobility stations including fieldwork, drawing review, permit coordination, and vendor deployment; updating program databases with accurate site information; coordination for temporary events and public safety emergencies, including station deactivation and reactivation, and temporary and permanent station relocations; liaising between DOT, other City agencies, and private contractors regarding matters pertaining to bike share and shared mobility services; conducting inspections of bike share and shared mobility stations and micro mobility-share vehicles; helping to plan expansion of services into new neighborhoods and improvements to existing bike share and micro mobility-share service areas; production of maps using ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint presentations; evaluating system patterns and trends using available data sources including online dashboards and Microsoft Excel; supporting outreach and correspondence tasks; performing difficult and responsible clerical operations; and related duties.

  • Identify technically viable sites for potential bike share and shared mobility stations including fieldwork, drawing review, permit coordination, and vendor deployment.
  • Update program databases with accurate site information.
  • Coordinate for temporary events and public safety emergencies, including station deactivation and reactivation, and temporary and permanent station relocations.
  • Liaise between DOT, other City agencies, and private contractors regarding bike share and shared mobility services.
  • Conduct inspections of bike share and shared mobility stations and micro mobility-share vehicles.
  • Help plan expansion of services into new neighborhoods and improvements to existing bike share and micro mobility-share service areas.
  • Produce maps using ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Evaluate system patterns and trends using available data sources including online dashboards and Microsoft Excel.
  • Support outreach and correspondence tasks.
  • Perform difficult and responsible clerical operations.
  • A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields.
  • A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above.
  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above.
  • Experience supporting the planning or oversight of a community based project in a major metropolitan area.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in transportation planning and policy.
  • Experience with bike share systems.
