About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Senior Program Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Program Coordinator provides hands-on leadership for the day-to-day administration of Specialty Day Camps and Afterschool Programs and provide support for other Youth Development Programs in accordance with all YMCA and state and licensing requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages, directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Nurture children by designing lesson plans that include purposeful programming that develops social-emotional skills, fosters achievement, supports academic growth and provides enrichment. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs cause-driven staff and volunteers that are dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and building relationships among youth and within families. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Responsible for collection of fees and reporting weekly/monthly balances. Understand and monitor the budget, communicate variances and exercise necessary expense controls. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Ensure staff are following all policies and procedures and ensuring staff are facilitating engaging and age appropriate activities as well as keeping supplies organized, maintaining a clean facility and care for equipment. Responsible for effectively handling all emergency incidents and submitting proper documentation. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living. Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and events. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Maintains proper records/department files. Organizes and/or participates special events. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of all Redwoods trainings including Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, and CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Nice To Haves

  • Child development associate credential (CDA) and one to two years of work experience in a licensed, approved or registered childcare facility preferred.
