The Patient Safety Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the interdisciplinary, hospital-wide Sharp Patient Safety Program. This role involves risk identification, prevention, and mitigation of patient safety events through the application of expertise in safety and reliability science. The coordinator leads patient safety initiatives and coaches leaders, staff, and physicians in fostering and sustaining a strong safety culture.

  • Develops reports to effectively communicate findings and presents results in writing or verbally.
  • Trains and coaches leaders and staff on the use of RL Solutions.
  • Coordinates annual Patient Safety Summit program and other patient safety educational programs.
  • Conducts environmental and patient safety rounding to identify and mitigate risk.
  • Responsible for the analysis of clinical process opportunities and the development of strategies to maximize safe practices.
  • Monitors trends in Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) and Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs) and coordinates action plans to improve performance.
  • Collaborates at the system and entity level to plan, develop, implement and evaluate patient safety program elements.
  • Participates and role models during huddles.
  • Mentors safety coaches to enhance learning from errors and defects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • 5 Years Clinical experience (ICU or ED preferred)
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting patient safety-related data to recommend specific improvement strategic priorities
  • Experience interacting, in oral and written forms, with staff, leaders, physicians, patients and families.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing - REQUIRED
  • 3 Years Experience in healthcare risk reduction/quality/safety
  • Leadership experience
  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) - Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety - PREFERRED
