About The Position

The Office of Fellowships supports students and alumni through the application and selection processes for nationally competitive undergraduate and post-baccalaureate fellowships. Fellowships support academic interests, cultural immersion, and networking opportunities in a wide variety of areas, such as conducting independent research, working in government, and studying or teaching English abroad. The Office also provides fall and summer courses for Fulbright research and teaching applicants. The Program Coordinator would join the Office of Fellowships to support our overall mission of providing well-rounded and multi-dimensional advisement support to students and alumni, with an emphasis on developing our undergraduate fellowship programs. The incumbent will also provide administrative support to the Director, including assistance with our cornerstone post-baccalaureate programs such as the U.S. Student Fulbright Grant and Watson Scholarship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of full-time experience in higher education working with research writing, student advising, or fellowship applications.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience coordinating small and large-scale projects, programs, and/or events.
  • Experience communicating with diverse populations of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Alignment with one or more of Pitzer’s core values.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills with a commitment to a team-based work environment.
  • Natural aptitude for technology and expertise with MS Office, including expert level use of Excel.
  • Ability to problem-solve and use analytical skills to develop and implement creative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative to work proactively, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize multiple projects, think strategically, and work with numbers and data.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the Office of Fellowships programs and events including budgets, timelines, application systems, and deliverables; student advising for Fulbright/fellowships, and feedback on applications/essays; and oversee operations in the Director’s absence.
  • Lead outreach, recruitment, communications, and student advising for critical undergraduate fellowships such as the Truman, Udall, Critical Language, and Goldwater Scholarships. Oversee application operations and provide feedback on applications/essays.
  • Support and develop outreach and communications for the Office of Fellowships including developing content and managing outreach and recruitment campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Director to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners; communicate with faculty, staff, and students about various fellowships; assist with maintaining an alumni network of Pitzer participants in Fulbright/fellowships.
  • Participate in broad strategic planning, data collection and analysis for the Office of Fellowships in partnership with OIRA; stay informed on best practices and continuing education for fellowship programs.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned based on the needs of the Office of Fellowships.
