The primary objective of this position is to ensure that the State Automated Driver License System (SADLS) accurately records actions related to both North Carolina and out-of-state offenses, in accordance with Chapter 20 of the North Carolina General Statutes. The incumbent collaborates closely with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) to ensure full compliance with applicable federal regulations and mandates. To support accurate system programming, this role requires the interpretation and analysis of new legislation, as well as the investigation of potential program issues. The position is responsible for reviewing applicable laws and Division policies and for reporting identified concerns to the SADLS Information Technology (IT) team. Upon reporting, the individual works collaboratively with IT personnel to research and define system requirements necessary to address and resolve the issues. All system testing associated with these updates is conducted and validated by this position prior to implementation. This role may also represent the Division as a member of the AAMVA ACD Work Group, contributing to discussions on new initiatives and national matters that may influence future legislation and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, this position is an integral member of the Division's Legislative Team, which comprises of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) responsible for researching and analyzing legislative proposals. As the SME and primary point of contact for the Customer Compliance Services Section, this role responds to impact requests, attends legislative and committee meetings, and provides insights regarding the implications of proposed statutory amendments.
