About The Position

The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) is to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate it as a public health problem in New York City. This position will focus on providing TB screening services to recent sponsored immigrants and refugees arriving in New York City . This work involves cultural sensitivity, organizational skills, working with clinic staff, and reporting evaluation outcomes. This includes direct outreach, documenting outcomes from appointments in our clinics, and review of local data on evaluations for TB of these individuals. Taken together, the selected candidate will use these experiences to provide insights on how to more efficiently use available resources to connect these individuals to screening, follow-up and care in NYC.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in public health or epidemiology from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in epidemiology; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of full-time paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires data collection and the reading and interpretation of medical charts and medical information in support of surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to support and train internal teams and communicate clearly with diverse partners.
  • Experience providing support or training related to data collection, outreach workflows, or program procedures is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (including use of filters, formulas, and data entry tools), Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including in partnership with clinical or outreach staff serving immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality work, follow-through, and responsiveness to team needs.
  • Interest in learning about tuberculosis, immigrant/refugee health, and public health program operations.
  • Familiarity with data systems or tracking tools used in public health or clinical settings is helpful, though advanced statistical skills are not required.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, support, and promote follow-up for sponsored immigrants and refugees in NYC with a TB condition.
  • Collaborate with local public hospital partners to arrange referrals to TB clinics beyond those operated by the NYC Health Department.
  • Pilot outreach efforts to assist individuals who may need help accessing health insurance or care for latent TB infection but are not eligible for routine screenings at Health Department clinics.
  • Work with the Data and Informatics team to update and enhance tools for tracking outreach and patient outcomes in Maven.
