About The Position

Rose Haven has provided over 25 years of compassionate service as the only day shelter in Portland for women, children and gender expansive people. We are a femme-centered, gender-specific community that serves those most impacted by gender oppression. Our holistic approach includes meeting essential needs (food, clothing, showers, laundry, and safety) while bolstering long term empowerment (emotional support, wellness activities, and connection to resources and community). We offer low-barrier services in a trauma-informed space to guests who trust us and value their relationships with our community of staff, interns and volunteers. The Program Associate (Hospitality) plays a vital role at Rose Haven, responsible for connecting our guests with clothing, laundry, hygiene supplies and other essential items, and rotates as needed in other direct service program areas, including Wellness (showers and activities) and Guest Services (guest check-in, intakes, mail services, and outside line support).

  • Have previous experience working with individuals encountering housing insecurity, low income, domestic/sexual violence, substance use or mental/physical health challenges (paid or unpaid)
  • Have knowledge of resources to connect individuals experiencing housing insecurity, low income, domestic/sexual violence, substance use, mental/physical health challenges, etc.
  • Can provide non-violent crisis intervention or de-escalation skills
  • Are punctual and dependable
  • Complete work tasks in a timely manner
  • Are adaptable and know how to prioritize in a dynamic, fast-paced, flexible environment
  • Have identities and/or lived experience that reflects the diversity of the people we serve.

  • Are fluent in a language particularly valued by Rose Haven (Spanish, Mandarin/Simplified Chinese, Russian)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain hygiene and personal care supplies at the Hospitality Desk
  • Understand guests' needs related to clothing, laundry, hygiene supplies, outdoor gear and other essential items and then maintain sign-up lists, retrieve items, or document requests for volunteers to fulfill
  • Work closely with volunteers to meet guest requests related to clothing or supplies, providing direction and support to volunteers as needed
  • Maintain daily data entry of services provided in guest management system
  • Provide rotating float support within our day shelter community space
  • Train in other direct service program areas (wellness and guest services) to rotate or fill in as needed
  • Assist with receiving in-kind donation drop-offs
  • Assist with guest notification and registration for annual activities and special events
