About The Position

The Mission at Kern County is seeking a part-time Program Assistant (AM shift 6:00am - 1:30pm) for The Lee and Krystyna Jamieson Transitional Home for Women with Children. Under general supervision of the Director of Women’s Programs, this position monitors the safety of and provides support to program clients in a residential recovery home. This position will also involve participation in Bible devotions, prayer, chapel (onsite), and church services (offsite) with program clients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet).
  • Must have a TB screen within the last year or be able to get one within seven days of hire. (provided)
  • Must be able to obtain CPR certification and First Aid Certification.
  • Training provided by The Mission at Kern County.
  • Certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to assist in an emergency situation.
  • Must have the ability to monitor medication use with appropriate documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience directly related to the duties outlined above and preferred one year of experience working with similar populations.
  • Experience working with infants and children.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping duties.
  • Knowledge of food handling and hygiene standards.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with the Director and staff to discuss all issues related to the program's operation.
  • Maintain good relationships with all volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with all Mission staff.
  • Interact professionally, positively, and appropriately with the women and children residing in the home, encouraging socially acceptable habits and behaviors.
  • Instruct, advise, and assist residents in maintaining their daily living activities, such as eating, hygiene, household cleanliness, or infant care issues.
  • Help mothers with children when necessary.
  • Schedule weekly appointments when necessary.
  • Use a company vehicle to assist with the transportation of residents to locations outside the home, such as a doctor’s office or church.
  • Accompany residents to doctors' appointments and help advocate for them.
  • Accompany and supervise women at church.
  • Maintaining a safe and secure treatment environment through completion of room and belonging searches, safety inspections, and reporting of safety issues should they arise.
  • Monitoring women/children during their daily routines, meals, playtime, etc.
  • Sit with women during devotions and meals.
  • Distribute medications at assigned times.
  • Monitor chores and double scrub, ensuring compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations and maintaining departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all clients utilizing services.
  • Print forms or documents and/or make copies as needed.
  • Administer U/A test when needed.
