About The Position

The position of Program Assistant monitors student behavior during playground, cafeteria, detention-time out, or street crossing activities; and performs a variety of general clerical duties in support of instructional activities. This is a temporary position that will end at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.

Requirements

  • Some experience working with students (preferred not required).
  • Skill in working with other adults and with students with a variety of skill levels, monitoring student activities and behavior and constructively intervening to stop unsafe or unruly behavior.
  • Monitor student educational progress and advise teacher(s) of student progress or perceived deficiencies.
  • Patiently and effectively work with students, including students with behavioral problems and mild learning disabilities.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic child care techniques; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and basic bookkeeping, as required of specific assignment, and modern office methods, practices, procedures, office equipment, as required of specific assignment.
  • Learn basic first aid and safety requirements.
  • Ability to learn and apply techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management, learn growth and development principles of students.
  • Work in a team situation.
  • Apply prescribed instructional program in small and large group settings and in one-on-one tutoring setting.
  • Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Learn and apply basic principles and practices of instructional program within area of assignment.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to develop rapport with students and other employees.
  • Ability to make decisions independently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a first-aid and CPR card.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor student activity, safety, and behavior.
  • Enforce District policies and rules.
  • Resolve minor or routine behavioral problems and discipline students for minor rules infractions.
  • Report more serious behavioral problems to appropriate teacher or to a Principal.
  • Perform basic first-aid, makes initial assessment of medical emergencies, and summons appropriate medical response.
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
