The Program Assistant supports ordering food from the Maryland Food Bank, facilitating the student Snack Sack Program, and providing necessary monthly reports to stakeholders. The position involves transporting and serving food to various locations within the community. The position supports the Outreach Coordinator in developing and maintaining strong community partnerships that enhance the Southern Maryland Food Bank's (SMFB) outreach programs, including assisting with the management of volunteers who package, prepare, and distribute food to the community.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience working in the community or at a non-profit program.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Safety Certification or Serve Safe Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Driving a 16-ft box truck is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and enter SMFB order for the following programs: pantry members, Senior, and Student Snack Sacks, and Meals of Hope truck.
  • Coordinate with schools participating in the School-based Snack Sack Program and facilitate an annual student survey.
  • Coordinate weekly volunteers to assemble Snack Sacks.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the SMFB, Catholic Charities, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships and communication with master gardeners from UMD Cooperative Extension for the Seeds of Hope community garden. Receive, record, and package harvested produce for distribution at the Giving Hope Food Pantry. Host outreach activities and educational events.
  • Assist in receiving, weighing, inspecting, recording, and transporting food and other products delivered to the SMFB.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator: In executing outreach and marketing strategies to expand recognition of the Southern Maryland Food Bank using social media and other communication channels. Promote program activities and offerings to private and public entities.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator: In volunteer training that will support the programs provided by the program.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator: With the processing of customer orders and payments in accordance with Agency policies.
  • Inventory and stock supplies for Meals and Hope food truck. Maintain clean, sanitary conditions in the food truck.
  • Participate in workshops and all scheduled meetings for staff development as assigned.
  • Represent Catholic Charities at interfaith, social service, cultural, and government meetings and events to promote programs of the SFMFB as may be required.
  • Drive vehicles, including up to a 26-foot truck to deliver, pick-up and serve food at various locations within the community.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
