About The Position

The Burn Behavioral Health (BBH) Program is seeking a part time Program Assistant to work within the South Carolina Burn Center, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Department of Surgery at MUSC. The BBH serves patients who require hospitalization after presenting to acute care medical emergency department and burn center settings for the treatment of burn injuries. The Program Assistant would provide program support in clinical, administrative, and quality improvement/research efforts being conducted. The services are provided in a stepped-care format spanning inpatient to outpatient continuum. The employee will support day-to-day program operations, conduct patient screenings, scheduling, and referrals, and assist with the management of a clinical database. The employee will be responsible for initial orientation and onboarding trainings of program trainees and volunteers. The employee will assist the program director with program implementation efforts, as needed.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two years relevant program experience.
  • A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, public health or related field. This may be substituted for the required program experience.
  • At least 1 year experience providing program assistance working with individuals affected by burns and traumatic life events.
  • Prior internship with the program is preferred.
  • Experience working with trauma/burn patients, effective patient communication skills
  • Significant experience working with multidisciplinary teams

  • Coordination of trainings, educational sessions, and outreach events
  • Experience tracking program/research activities, program reporting

Responsibilities

  • Assist with clinical operations of the BBH program, including: identifying and registering eligible burn patients upon admission to the burn center or following a referral from the burn team; conducting brief in-person or telephone mental health screenings 1-month post-injury; managing patient correspondence via secure email and letters; tracking and scheduling/rescheduling patients for initial and follow-up visits following a positive screen; providing referrals to other mental health services for patients who experience other mental health conditions that are not addressed by BBH.
  • Assist with BBH program implementation, including day-to-day clinic operations, data collection, and quality improvement efforts. Maintain active communication with leadership and other key personnel regarding implementation activities and create monthly progress reports.
  • Trainees and volunteers are an essential part of the BBH program. Trainees assist with clinical operations, multidisciplinary collaboration, and program development activities. Provide onboarding, orientation, and training of BBH trainees and volunteers. Oversee trainee activities and completion of tasks. Send progress reports to supervisors, as needed.
