Working closely with the Office of Public Information, the intern helps translate complex insurance topics into easy-to-understand graphics that enhance communication, strengthen public engagement, and reflect the Department's brand. The Graphic Design Intern provides creative support to the South Carolina Department of Insurance by:

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and relevant graphic design experience.
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, color theory, typography, and visual hierarchy.
  • Working understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud programs (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and/or comparable design tools (Canva, Figma, etc.).
  • Knowledge of how to prepare graphics for both digital and print formats.
  • Familiarity with creating content for social media platforms, websites, and public-facing outreach materials.
  • Basic understanding of branding standards and how to maintain visual consistency across materials.
  • Awareness of accessibility best practices for digital communications (alt text, color contrast, readability).
  • Knowledge of file organization, exporting, and formatting processes (PDFs, PNGs, vectors, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the creation and development of high-quality visual content, such as brochures, advertisements, social media graphics and other collateral, for print and digital platforms.
  • Assisting with communication projects that provide information on the services, programs, and duties of our agency.
  • Working closely with the communications area to understand design needs and deliver assets on time.
  • Ensuring that all designs are consistent with the Department's branding and style.
  • Helping design presentations and reports as needed.
  • Managing and organizing design files.
