The Administrator of the Anatomical Bequest Program (ABP) plans, directs, and coordinates all arrangements associated with whole-body donation when a death has occurred. Specific tasks include functioning as a Funeral Director by contacting close relatives/associates of the deceased and removing, preparing, transporting, storing, using, and disposing of donors according to the University’s standards and applicable laws. Responsibilities Advises funeral service professionals (Embalmers) on aspects of entire body donation. Confers with donors: Sets up medical screenings and establishes authority of next of kin or power of attorney for legal authorization. Oversees aspects of labs for courses, crematory, and preparation facility. Prepares donors for storage; orders and pays for operating costs of preparation and transportation of donors. Offers counsel and comfort to bereaved families or friends. Displays respect for donors and donor families. Protects the rights and privacy of the deceased and next of kin. Consults with families or friends of the deceased to assist with post-mortem details, such as obituaries or plans for services. Maintains a donor file list; attains signed/approved forms of release, cremation, and disposition of the deceased and assists others with the preparation of legal forms (i.e., death certificate for donor). Manages personnel accountable for financial records, ordering merchandise, preparing accounts, and entering and tracking the transportation of the deceased. Establishes relationships with hospices, funeral homes, and other institutions of donor awareness. Develop and maintain relationships with organizations to increase donor awareness. Performs other related duties as assigned.
