About The Position

Do you have a passion for working with people with disabilities? If you answered yes, the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation has exciting year-round part-time employment opportunities for you! Disability Services supports participants to learn, engage, and have fun in childcare programs, classes, special events, and recreation activities. Work opportunities are available on different days and times throughout Prince George's County. Under Title II of the ADA, Program Access supports people with disabilities to participate in classes, childcare programs, and special events. To thrive in this position, you must be willing to actively participate in all program activities, assist with the adaptation of activities, and help facilitate social interaction between participants. Effectively communicating with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents/guardians is extremely important. All selected candidates must provide excellent customer service and must maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical, and personal information.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 16 for Inclusion Aide, 18 for Inclusion Support Staff I, 19 for Inclusion Support Staff II, and 21 for Inclusion Support Staff III.
  • Desire and interest in working with people with disabilities.
  • Minimal related experience required for Inclusion Aide.
  • High school diploma and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or two or more years of work-related disability experience for Inclusion Support Staff I.
  • Two years of college in related field and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or four or more years of related disability experience for Inclusion Support Staff II.
  • Four years of college in a related field or two years of college plus three years of experience working with persons with disabilities or six or more years of related disability experience for Inclusion Support Staff III.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers.
  • Actively participate in all program activities.
  • Assist with the adaptation of activities.
  • Help facilitate social interactions.
  • Advocate for the full inclusion of participants within the program.
  • Maintain documentation and implement behavior plans as needed.
  • Conduct sensitivity awareness activities and training on site as required.
