About The Position
The Proficiency Assessment Specialist plays a crucial role in evaluating student performance to determine language ability through various assessments, including the Credit Through Testing State approved exam and nationally normed assessments. The primary objective of these language assessments is to accurately gauge students' proficiency levels for appropriate course placement, awarding high school credit, or fulfilling the criteria for the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy. This position is essential in ensuring that students with a home or heritage language other than English receive the necessary evaluations to support their educational journey. In this role, the specialist will conduct detailed language assessments, which involve not only the administration of tests but also the interpretation of results. The specialist is responsible for preparing comprehensive reports that include assessment outcomes, score interpretations, and recommendations for improvement when necessary. Collaboration is a key aspect of this position, as the specialist will consult with other proficiency assessment assessors to discuss students' performance and language use, ensuring a holistic approach to language assessment and support. The Proficiency Assessment Specialist will also engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in language assessment and educational strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of language acquisition and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and educational staff to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
