About The Position

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track, academic faculty appointment as a Professor of Practice. The new hire will be responsible for further growing the new undergraduate degree program in Construction Engineering which will celebrate its first BS graduates in December 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in person at the undergraduate level by contributing to existing courses as well as developing and delivering new courses within the B.S. degree program in Construction Engineering. The new hire will be expected to maintain records of assessment required for subsequent ABET accreditation of the new program, work with adjunct instructors and new hires in construction engineering, mentor and supervise students and participate in service to the department and Mines. The new Professor of Practice will potentially develop and deliver future online and graduate-level courses. Mines is especially interested in qualified candidates who can further enhance, through their teaching and service, to the excellent reputation of the Mines academic community.

Requirements

  • A Master of Science Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering or a related discipline and at least 7 years of professional experience, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or a related discipline and over 10 years of professional experience.
  • Professional experience must be in the construction field, industry-based (not academic), and in the US.
  • Significant heavy civil/large-scale infrastructure construction experience.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure or equivalent.
  • Managerial and decision-making responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Engagement in professional activities such as delivering short courses, pedagogical development and publication.
  • Experience working with students and/or mentoring young professionals.
  • Engagement in professional construction engineering activities, for example, the ASCE Construction Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the new undergraduate degree program in Construction Engineering.
  • Teach in person at the undergraduate level.
