About The Position

The Division Chief at the University of Miami is responsible for the academic, clinical, fiscal, and operational management of the division within the Department of Medicine. This role involves overseeing education, research, and patient care, while promoting collaboration with various departments and affiliated entities. The Chief is expected to lead initiatives that align with the university's mission and ensure high standards of performance and compliance among faculty members.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Significant experience in academic medicine and leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated track record in clinical care, research, and education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate short- and long-term goals of the division in alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Promote collaboration among internal and external peers in research, teaching, advocacy, and scholarly activities.
  • Provide leadership in the area of expertise to the Department and its affiliated institutions.
  • Maintain program accreditation and ensure compliance with local and national standards of performance.
  • Mentor faculty and implement career development objectives.
  • Set annual expectations for faculty in clinical, research, education, and citizenship areas.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for division members.
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines for credentialing, clinical documentation, and other relevant policies.
  • Attend leadership meetings and collaborate with affiliate Hospital leadership on clinical programs.
  • Develop priorities for growth of clinical programs to enhance patient care and quality.
  • Supervise medical services to ensure quality and safety of patient care.
  • Develop priorities for growth in academic research programs and recruit new faculty.
  • Ensure faculty meet minimum sponsored funding expectations for research.
  • Oversee the development and evaluation of educational programs in the Division.
  • Support continuing professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with central administration to manage divisional finances and budgets.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives within the Division and affiliated Hospitals.
