About The Position

The Professional Tutor/Instructor position involves providing effective instruction and facilitating student learning across all assigned classes. The role requires performing evaluations of student learning in accordance with HLC priorities and developing students' skills through individualized tutoring. The instructor will assist students in improving their learning processes, assess their specific needs, and teach supplementary lessons as necessary. Additionally, the position includes developing course curricula, syllabi, and educational resources, participating in program-level learning assessments, and maintaining student records in compliance with FERPA regulations. The instructor will also be expected to communicate with students during office hours and be available for tutoring after hours and on weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  • Previous tutoring experience, formal or informal.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relation skills.
  • Strong verbal and professional writing communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of study skills.
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to qualified Native Americans and Veterans in accordance with TERO.
  • Successful completion of a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective instruction and facilitate student learning for all assigned classes.
  • Perform evaluations of student learning using course, program, and essential outcomes.
  • Provide individualized, professional tutoring to students.
  • Develop students' skills and assist them in improving their learning process.
  • Assess specific needs of each student.
  • Teach supplementary lessons as needed.
  • Develop course curricula, syllabi, handouts, lectures, labs, and/or presentations.
  • Participate in program-level learning assessment and implement changes to improve student learning.
  • Work with Student Success staff to provide support for students.
  • Select textbooks and online educational resources to meet instructional outcomes.
  • Communicate with students about course requirements and evaluation procedures.
  • Be available to students during office hours and via email, phone, or personal conferences.
  • Maintain coursework/student records, attendance, and grades through Empower.
  • Attend training to stay current in technological and pedagogical advances.
  • Help students achieve their educational goals through advising and mentoring.
  • Attend commencement and ceremonies appropriate to the discipline/program.
  • Participate in leadership and professional organizations.
  • Participate on committees and attend staff meetings and training.
  • Increase knowledge of Dakota culture and language.
  • Respectfully cooperate and perform cross-functionality of duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
