About The Position

UPMC East in Monroeville, PA is hiring a Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse to support the 3E Stepdown Unit. This full-time position will work 3, 12-hour shifts per week, some weekends and holidays are required. This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus! Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus-eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment to UPMC East. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Title and salary will be determined based on education and nursing experience. Purpose: The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse (RN) or Graduate Nurse (GN) and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of experience.
  • Able to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non‑physician providers, ancillary/support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Able to work productively and effectively within a complex environment.
  • Able to manage multiple and changing priorities and operate specialized equipment.
  • Strong clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual/manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • UPMC‑approved national certification preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the facility’s state or via a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate license.
  • CPR required per AHA standards (didactic + skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire.
  • Graduate nurses must complete the licensure exam within 6 months of hire or 1 year of graduation (whichever comes first).
  • Temporary permits are valid for one year from graduation, but UPMC requires GNs to test within 6 months of start date or face termination/demotion.
  • ACLS due within 12 months of hire.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) due within 6 months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
  • Act 34 Clearance
  • Licensure must be held in the facility’s state or via an NLC multistate license.
  • Employees working under an out‑of‑state NLC license who move into the facility’s state must apply for in‑state licensure within 60 days of residency change.
