About The Position

The Professional Staff Nurse in the Operating Room at UPMC Northwest is a full-time position that typically operates on a Monday to Friday daylight shift, with required rotating call responsibilities including weeknight, weekend, and holiday duties. The nurse will demonstrate accountability for professional development, actively participate in unit-based shared governance, and support the change and transition process to improve the quality of care and the practice environment. The role involves applying the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care, formulating daily goals and plans of care for patients, and demonstrating critical thinking in identifying various issues affecting patient care. The nurse will also be responsible for patient documentation, teaching patients and families, participating in quality improvement efforts, and maintaining productive working relationships.

Requirements

  • 2+ years nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of growth & development across lifespan; ability to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
  • Current RN license (state or compact).
  • BLS/CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire.

  • National certification preferred.
