About The Position

The Professional Staff Nurse at UPMC Children's Community Pediatrics is a Registered Nurse responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients. This role involves managing patient care activities, collaborating with healthcare teams, and establishing relationships with patients and their families to achieve optimal health outcomes. The nurse is expected to demonstrate commitment to the community and the nursing profession while actively participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Prior pediatric office experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum six months of nursing experience preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of practice or a state covered by a compact agreement.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and teaching methods for children.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and takes personal responsibility in improving patient satisfaction.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with healthcare team members and patients.
  • Demonstrates good clinical judgment and critical thinking in patient care.
  • Provides detailed teaching to patients and families regarding their care.
  • Formulates goals and plans of care that involve patients as partners.
  • Triages patient situations and coordinates care with physicians.
  • Documents patient care comprehensively to promote communication between caregivers.
  • Participates in practice-based shared governance and supports quality improvement initiatives.
