The UPMC Harrisburg 24‑Bed Neurology Unit, which includes 8 designated Neuro Intermediate Care beds, is part of the hospital's comprehensive Neuroscience service line and serves as a central hub for advanced neurological care in central Pennsylvania. As a four-time Magnet-designated hospital, UPMC Harrisburg is committed to excellence in nursing practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and quality patient outcomes. This unit supports a diverse and complex adult neurological patient population. This includes individuals needing Neurovascular intervention, Neurosurgical Intervention as well as the Pharmaco-medical management of acute neurological disorders. Nurses on this unit are part of a highly specialized care program, offering a unified continuum of care as patient needs change through the course of hospitalization. The unit is geared toward both experienced nurses and new graduate nurses. You will find a strong network of support, including a unit-based mentorship program. New graduate nurses have the opportunity to progressively build their skills—from caring for acute floor‑level neurological patient populations to advancing into Neuro Intermediate Care (IMC) nursing as they grow in confidence and clinical expertise. The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession. The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team.
