About The Position

The Professional Land Surveyor I position at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is responsible for conducting and managing land survey work within the Right-of-Way Survey/Plans Unit. This role supports the development and maintenance of the State Transportation System in Region 2, ensuring accurate Right-of-Way plans are generated. The position involves both office and field work, requiring expertise in land surveying and the ability to lead and train other survey personnel.

Requirements

  • Current, valid licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) and survey applications such as InRoads/MicroStation and Trimble Business Center.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including technical report writing and editing.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects in a demanding environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and resolving land survey and property ownership issues.
  • Knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting ROW plans and engineering project plans.
  • Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field surveying including Control Survey, TMOSS topography surveys, and Boundary Survey field work.
  • Evaluate survey field notes, evidence, and researched information using mathematics and computer software.
  • Research survey data, establish survey control, and prepare legal descriptions and plans.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to other survey positions within the region.
  • Create ROW Plans using Bentley OpenRoads software, including drawing and annotating features.
  • Prepare, certify, and file necessary documents with appropriate agencies as required by state statute.
  • Communicate with Project Design Personnel and attend various project meetings.
  • Investigate and respond to external customer requests regarding survey and Right-of-Way Plan activities.
