About The Position

This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage. The position is located in the Equal Rights Commission and involves independently and impartially investigating moderately complex allegations of discrimination under Title 5 of the Anchorage Municipal Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, analyzing evidence, writing narrative reports including findings of investigation and case closure, conducting fact finding and conciliation conferences, and assisting in training with other Investigators. The role also requires scheduling work assignments for other Investigators and gathering and analyzing statistical data on case processing statistics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and seven (7) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
  • OR Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and five (5) years of professional investigative experience.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and three (3) years of professional investigative experience.
  • OR Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and one (1) year of professional investigative experience.
  • Must possess and/or obtain a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Ability to type at a minimum of 35 WPM.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Independently and impartially investigates allegations of discrimination.
  • Conducts interviews and analyzes evidence.
  • Writes narrative reports including findings of investigation and case closure.
  • Conducts fact finding and conciliation conferences.
  • Develops materials for agency outreach.
  • Assists management in writing grants.
  • Participates and assists in training with other Investigators.
  • Schedules work assignments for other Investigators.
  • Gathers and analyzes statistical data on case processing statistics.
  • Prepares graphic reports and written documents detailing statistical data.
