About The Position

PROFESSIONAL, INNOVATION PROTOTYPING The Professional, Innovation Prototyping owns the end-to-end execution of Under Armour's product prototypes & samples that are designed and built at our Lighthouse Innovation Center. This role works closely with cross-functional partners to interpret a design concept and then engineers it into a functional product that solves the needs of our athletes using the latest innovations in materials, techniques, and equipment. PROFESSIONAL, MATERIALS PROCESSING TECHNICIAN The Materials Processing Technician will have the opportunity be a part of the development of Under Armour's Lighthouse, where we are exploring advanced manufacturing processes and prototyping/sampling of apparel and footwear. The Materials Processing Technician will be responsible for coordinating the full spectrum of daily apparel materials processing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with typically 2 years of related experience or Masters degree without experience or typically 6 years of relevant experience without degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of sewing techniques using industrial (high-speed) equipment.
  • Experience in the sports apparel industry
  • Effective independent judgment, as role requires continuous independent judgment and the exercise of technical and artistic discretion.
  • Good time management skills and able to manage time to handle multiple priorities
  • Bachelor's degree with typically 2 years of related experience or Masters degree without experience or typically 6 years of relevant experience without degree.
  • Experience in Pattern Making, Marker Making, Automatic Cutting and Spreading Processes. Sewing experience is desired.
  • Functional experience, and pattern engineering experience preferred,
  • Experience with a wide variety of cutting/sewing machines and fabrications.
  • Experience in optimizing material utilization.
  • Proven track record in assisting in the development of innovative designs be skilled at getting things done on time.

Responsibilities

  • Execute concepts utilizing a variety of equipment equipped with manual and automatic controls, including textile cutting tables, laser cutting, sewing & seamless equipment, heat presses, embroidery, pad printing, and more. Execute component and/or complete sewing operations within a team/modular approach to provide full or partial garment prototypes from a pattern.
  • Evaluate design sketches and exercise independent judgement to determine best method(s) of creating garment concepts.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge to ideate and create original concepts to meet the needs of our Focused Performers.
  • Analyze manufacturing "sew-ability" to determine and document methods that increase efficiency, reduce cost, improve quality, and/or add innovative features.
  • Interact cross functionally with Technical Designers, Designers, Engineers, Mechanics and Managers, offering ideas and recommended approaches based on experiences with construction and/or fabric
  • Foster an open mind and a desire to implement new techniques and technologies within the Apparel Prototyping Processes; including implementation of processes to improve the quality of products.
  • Execute and innovate component and/or complete assembly operations.
  • Uses CAD software (Lectra, Optitex and Gerber) to create standard principles and guidelines for prototyping patterns and production markers.
  • Work with our supply team to order the right amount of materials; calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, perimeter and volume for materials based on cutting methodology.
  • Collaborate in pattern theory, education, making, digitizing and grading for all the new assembly processes such as adhesive bonding, ultrasound, and flexible manufacturing systems (FMS).
  • Work towards improving the Overall Material Utilization, such as spread loss and marking efficiency.
  • Collaborates in the execution of garment customization for UA sponsored Athletes and Customization/Bespoke Platforms
  • Produces essential novelty details and socket suspensions garments for veterans in rehabilitation and prosthetic transition. (Customizing through actual amputates body fitting and made to measure). Working on personal needs garments and special request).
  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings by style and reviews with the Sr. Director of Prototyping, Product Development and Sourcing.
  • Develop and maintain the projects CAD Manuals.
  • Maintain constant communication with leadership and peer team to make sure that priorities are being met.
