About the position

The Professional Growth Specialist assists the Director of Professional Learning in developing, implementing, and delivering meaningful coaching and learning opportunities for instructional staff in Manassas City. This position is responsible for ensuring equitable opportunities and access for all students, engaging in coaching cycles with teachers, leading the New Teacher Academy, and supporting the TEAM program. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance professional development and instructional practices.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with teachers to ensure equitable opportunities and access for all students.
  • Engages in coaching cycles with new and identified experienced teachers that includes goal setting, classroom visits, observations, feedback, modeling, reflection, and problem-solving.
  • Leads the planning, development, and execution of New Teacher Academy.
  • Ensures consistency of implementation of the TEAM program vision, mission, and goals at each building by working collaboratively with building lead mentors and mentor teachers.
  • Supports all members of the TEAM program through professional development, implementing program expectations, and consistent collaboration.
  • Provides targeted, ongoing support to teachers through one-on-one coaching, workshops, ongoing collaboration, and job-embedded professional development.
  • Facilitates reflective conversations with teachers to drive instructional decision-making and practices.
  • Provides teachers with strategies for problem solving and effective self-reflection with the goal of enhancing their professional practice.
  • Fosters collaboration among the various levels of support provided to teachers.
  • Supports the design, delivery, and monitoring of ongoing professional learning aligned with division priorities and goals.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Office of Professional Learning, schools, colleagues, and other departments to ensure alignment and effective implementation of key priorities.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Maintains confidentiality in professional relationships.
  • Completes paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Models being a lifelong learner by participating in professional learning opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in instructional planning, implementation, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of adult learning practices and experience in designing and delivering effective professional learning opportunities.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong written, interpersonal, collaborative, speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and appropriately respond to concerns in a timely manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching individuals.
  • Experience in leading teams of teachers and facilitating adult learning.
  • Experience in designing and delivering effective professional learning activities at the district, school, and classroom levels.
