About The Position

AECOM is seeking a PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER - CIVIL HIGHWAY to be based in either the Philadelphia, PA or Conshohocken, PA offices. This is a HYBRID position and additional office locations may be considered. In this role, you will provide technical leadership to teams working on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area. Current notable projects include: CITY OF PHILADELPHIA PASCHALL-ELMWOOD BRIDGES (Philadelphia, PA) – Replacement or rehabilitation of three bridges over Amtrak to bring them to good condition, alleviate any existing traffic congestion to maximum extent possible, and provide feasible multimodal transportation asset for the community SEPTA MAINLINE RECONSTRUCTION (Philadelphia, PA) – Replacement or rehabilitation of seven bridges between 30th Street and Suburban Station. Project includes traffic control, 3D modeling and construction phasing, stakeholder and 3rd party coordination, construction scheduling and bid services. US-22 RECONSTRUCTION (Allentown, PA) – Urban interstate widening from 4 to 6 lanes. Project Includes bridge replacement, interchange reconfiguration, stream relocation, sound barriers, safety improvements, traffic control, and utility coordination. I-81 RECONSTRUCTION (Avoca, Moosic, and Scranton, PA) - Urban Interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, 2 interchanges being fully reconstructed including ramp realignments, intersection improvements, right-of- way coordination, and structure coordination for 15 bridges along mainline and ramps. PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE MP 316-319 (Charlestown Township, PA) - Urban interstate reconstruction on alignment and widening from 4 to 6 lanes, including utility coordination, bridge replacements, and sound barriers as well as coordination with an adjacent project. The PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER - CIVIL HIGHWAY candidate will delegate tasks to less experienced engineers and provide technical guidance and support to those individuals. As a professional engineer licensed in Pennsylvania, they will use prior experience with publications, manuals, and processes considered standard to PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, City of Philadelphia, and/or SEPTA.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus six (6) years of related experience with highway transportation projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Design experience working on projects for PennDOT, PA Turnpike, SEPTA, and/or City of Philadelphia
Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
Demonstrated knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

Nice To Haves

10 or more years of roadway/highway design experience
Familiarity with OpenRoads, SignCAD or GuideSign, and AutoTURN software programs
Design experience working on projects for Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and/or Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC)
Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work environment with hybrid teams
Ability to utilize spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software
Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff

Responsibilities

Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
Develop rigid and flexible pavement designs
Prepare signing and pavement marking plans and details
Prepare construction phasing plans and develop maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviews
Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
Develop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques
Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards
Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
Complete interdisciplinary technical reviews
Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget
Develop project design schedules for submissions and internal milestones in coordination with project manager
Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations
Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client’s scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making
Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers
Contribute to the development of technical scope and price proposals
Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings
Prepares technical specification sections
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
Analyzes complex issues and recommends solutions which may lead to improvements in methodologies
Uses judgement outside defined parameters and precedents to make decisions
Identifies better techniques to improve quality and enhance operation excellence
Adopts new perspectives and views to approach work and accommodate to change
Conveys complex or sensitive information, topics, and concepts with internal and external stakeholders
Persuades others to consider various options
Possesses strong technical skills acquired through advanced training, study and experience
Provides structured guidance and training to develop team capabilities
Actively participates in professional or industry organizations as a committee member
