About The Position

The New York State Department of Transportation is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) for the I-81 Viaduct Project. This position involves project-specific work, including design, construction, Design-Build procurement, consultant management, project development activities, and utility coordination. The selected candidates will be responsible for supervising and leading design teams, coordinating project activities, monitoring project progress, and managing quality control for procurement documents. The role may also involve construction responsibilities, including monitoring compliance with contract requirements and ensuring high standards of quality and safety. Travel to Syracuse is required, and candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license.

Requirements

  • A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration.
  • A qualifying bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related fields.
  • One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in managing consultant teams.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of utility coordination in design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead State forces and/or consultant highway or bridge design teams throughout all stages of the project development process.
  • Coordinate project activities with regional & Main Office functional units and/or consultants, local officials, and the public.
  • Monitor project progress with respect to cost, scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Manage, assist, and provide quality control for the production of Design Bid Build and/or Design Build procurement documents.
  • Coordinate utilities in design and construction stages.
  • Monitor night or weekend work as required to support project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements as well as Federal, State, and Local Laws, Rules, and Regulations.
  • Assure the contractor meets high standards of quality and workmanship and overall safety on the project.
