About The Position

The Professional Development Associate assists the Nursing Professional Development Specialist in educational endeavors for Medical Assistants (MAs) and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) as part of the Nursing Department of Nursing Practice, Research and Professional Development. This staff member is accountable for completing delegated educational tasks from the Nursing Professional Development Specialists in a manner that efficiently serves the staff and meets the goals of the organization. Under the supervision, mentoring, and guidance of the department's Nursing Professional Development Specialist, this staff member will implement the Medical Assistant Program; and complete other duties as assigned. The Professional Development Assistant Is accountable for functions such as maintaining databases, event planning and managing logistics for educational activities; participating on planning committees; marketing; interacting with internal and external stakeholders; reporting budget information; ordering and monitoring use of supplies; documenting evidence of meeting accreditation and/or regulatory requirements; and participating in both activity and department-level evaluation processes. Key responsibilities include: Educational Support, Program Implementation, Administrative & Logistical Coordinator, Stakeholder engagement and communication, evaluation and quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education or a health-related field required, or must complete bachelor’s degree in a health-related field in 3 to 5 years
  • 3 or more years in hospital clinical experience
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates effective working relationships among departments.

  • Participates in the development and review of departmental practices.
  • Under the guidance of a Nursing Professional Development Specialist: Demonstrate ability to assist in the planning, teaching, and evaluation of UAP Gold Standard new-employee orientation
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in the planning and validating of UAP Gold Standard competencies
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in the planning, teaching, and evaluation of UAP Gold Standard Preceptor classes
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in the teaching activities of the UAP Gold Standard Acute-Care School Program
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in new UAP educational endeavors and in-services as directed by the department’s Nursing Professional Development Specialists
  • Demonstrate ability to validate annual Point of Care Testing competencies.
  • Participates as a BLS instructor (Must become a BLS instructor within 6 months of hire).
  • Demonstrates effective learning activity preparation and set up of learning spaces, including scheduling, registration, instructor coordination and evaluation of the learning activities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication of upcoming educational programs.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles and multigenerational learning theory to provide quality educational programs.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
