This position performs independent work providing counseling and mental health services to students enrolled at TSC and reports to the Coordinator of Counseling. The Mental Health Counselor Provides a range of counseling services including assessment, therapy, crisis support, outreach, and referrals. Consults with campus and external partners, may train others and supervise interns, and is responsible for maintaining accurate clinical records while ensuring strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field, and four (4) years of related experience; or a combination of education and/or experience.
  • Incumbent must possess State of Florida licensure: Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Clinical/Professional Counselor (LCPC or LPC).

Nice To Haves

  • A Doctorate in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical services to meet the needs of TSC’s diverse campus community and working in partnership with TSC personnel to develop identification, service, and referral processes for “at risk” students, including: conducting student intake and assessment interviews; developing individualized intervention plans; providing triage, crisis intervention, individual, and family brief solution-focused counseling; responding to trauma incidents and providing crisis-intervention and grief/loss supportive services; providing referral and follow-up services to community agencies; providing case management through support, tracking, and follow-up; maintaining confidential client files; completing case notes for all student counseling interactions; and complying with all federal confidentiality (FERPA and HIPAA regulations) while adhering to ethical standards of the profession
  • Providing comprehensive services for students while communicating with and assisting staff regarding “at risk” students
  • Upholding the highest ethical standards as stipulated in the ACA Handbook and HIPAA/FERPA regulations, including confidentiality
  • Facilitating outreach services through intervention- and prevention-oriented educational groups on topics relevant to college students; making presentations to students, faculty, and staff on mental health issues; initiating and maintaining contact with faculty/staff as a resource and for coordinating services for referred students; acting as a liaison between TSC and external mental health, medical, and social service agencies; serving as a resource to parents and others on student mental health concerns; and recruiting and supervising student interns in related fields
  • Leading workshops on campus and continuing presentations on mental health needs of college students in various settings, both on and off campus
  • Assisting in recruiting and supervising student interns
  • Assisting the Coordinator of Counseling with developing departmental goals and objectives for mental health services; partnering with faculty/staff to implement and anticipate outcomes addressing identified needs; completing institutional effectiveness reports by compiling and analyzing data for monthly and annual reports; preparing educational materials on mental health and wellness topics; and updating the mental health services website with current and relevant information
  • Discussing with supervisors matters pertinent to the counseling center and proposing ideas for improving service quality, while developing goals and objectives to meet student needs
  • Assisting the Coordinator in developing semester improvement plans by implementing strategic assessments
  • Serving as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and standing committees as assigned; attending departmental meetings and staff training; and staying current on counseling practices and research by attending conferences and training sessions
  • Participating in BIT meetings as needed
  • Attending departmental meetings, conferences, and staff trainings to remain informed of changes relevant to professional development
  • Performing other related duties as assigned
