About The Position

This position is responsible for the billing functions for MyMichigan Health and MyMichigan Medical Group physician practices. This position is responsible for billing and follow up of insurance accounts. It includes verification of benefits and communication with the insurance companies. It requires review of the general appropriateness of account balances.

Requirements

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • One year experience in a computerized medical setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in medical billing
  • Experience in medical office setting
  • Experience in medical terminology perferred.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Submits new electronic and paper insurance claims.
  • Performs follow up on outstanding insurances balances including contacting the insurance company and utilization of the internet.
  • Makes appropriate decisions regarding the status of an account utilizing carrier specific billing knowledge.
  • Reviews outstanding physician insurance claims on a timely basis.
  • Processes additional billings as required to obtain maximum payment on account.
  • Responds to correspondence appropriate to area of responsibility.
  • Communicates effectively with other department staff to resolve insurance billing issues.
  • Maintains accuracy of insurance and patient account status.
  • Understands payer billing requirements.
  • Resolve credit balances.
  • Performs other miscellaneous related duties.
