Position Summary The Lead Production Operator plays a critical role in overseeing daily production activities while actively participating in the recycling and reconditioning of industrial containers, including drums and intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). This position supports the full lifecycle process—receiving, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, reassembling (rebottling), and preparing containers for reuse—ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. As a working leader, this role provides guidance to production team members, ensures production targets are met, and promotes a safe, efficient, and team-oriented work environment. The Lead Production Operator is essential to maintaining operational flow, supporting sustainability efforts, and delivering high-quality products to customers. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Support Provide day-to-day guidance and direction to production team members Support onboarding and training of new employees Promote a positive team environment focused on safety, quality, and productivity Serve as a point of contact for operators, escalating issues to supervisors as needed Ensure proper staffing coverage and workflow coordination throughout the shift Production Operations Oversee and perform tasks including washing, drying, inspecting, testing, labeling, packing, storing, and destroying containers Operate equipment such as power washers, forklifts, vacuums, palletizers, seamers, welders, and slitters Assist with production changeovers and ensure smooth transitions between jobs Monitor production flow and ensure output meets required standards and timelines Read and interpret customer specifications and production requirements Quality & Compliance Ensure all products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications Perform visual and manual inspections throughout the production process Complete required production, quality, and inventory documentation Ensure compliance with ISO standards and company procedures Report defects, deviations, and production issues promptly Safety & Environmental Responsibility Enforce all plant safety rules, policies, and procedures Lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including Tyvek jackets and full-body suits where required Participate in and support daily safety meetings Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and reporting requirements Equipment & Facility Maintenance Maintain clean and organized work areas (6S/lean practices) Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly maintained before, during, and after shifts Identify and report equipment issues or maintenance needs Work Environment Non-climate-controlled facility with exposure to both hot and cold temperatures Wet and potentially slippery walking surfaces Exposure to loud noise; hearing protection is required Exposure to chemical odors from previously used containers High forklift traffic in a warehouse setting Physically demanding, repetitive work performed on foot for extended periods Qualifications Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required Previous leadership or lead/operator experience preferred Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment Basic math skills (counting, measurements, ratios, percentages) Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions Troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities Experience with manufacturing systems and documentation preferred Physical Requirements Ability to work shifts of 8–12 hours with schedule flexibility as required Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift Ability to regularly lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs., including lifting above shoulder height Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs. consistently Ability to perform repetitive lifting tasks throughout the shift Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and use hands continuously Ability to safely walk and work on wet or slippery surfaces Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Steel or composite toe boots (required) Safety glasses (required) Gloves (various types as required) Hearing protection (required in designated areas) Cut-resistant sleeves (as required) Hard hat (in designated areas) Tyvek jackets and full-body suits (mandatory in designated operations) Properly fitted work clothing at all times What to Expect Strong team camaraderie and supportive work environment Opportunities for cross-training and forklift certification Consistent, stable work with growth potential A physically engaging role where you contribute to sustainability and operational success Additional Requirements Reliable transportation and consistent attendance Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
