About The Position

The Production Welder B position at Textron Aviation involves performing diversified welding operations on various metal parts and materials. Requirements

  • High school diploma, equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification required.
  • Must obtain three tig weld certifications within nine months of entering the classification with supervision's approval.
  • Minimum three years of tig welding experience required without a Technical School Certification, or one year with a Technical School Certification.
  • Experience in diversified production and tack welding, brazing, spot, seam, soldering, and flame heat treating preferred.

  • Experience holding Production Welder C classification.
  • Technical School Certification in welding.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion welding processes such as solder, tungsten inert gas, spot, seam, and orbital on various metal alloy parts and assemblies.
  • Set up parts and operate various welding equipment to weld all types and gauges of materials with or without fixtures.
  • Improvises holding and locating devices to clamp and align parts and assemblies.
  • Prepare material for welding operations by cleaning, forming, and positioning parts, tubes, and assemblies.
  • Determine welding sequence to minimize internal stress, warping contraction, or expansion.
  • Exercise close mental and visual attention to avoid welding defects such as excessive penetration, oxidation, porosity, cracks, or improper bead contour.
  • Perform operations necessary to smooth and finish welded parts and assemblies.
  • Grind and smooth welded parts to appearance specifications.
  • Perform leak tests on welded parts and assemblies.
  • Check, join, straighten or hand form detail and welded assemblies according to specifications.
  • Operate power machines such as band saws, drill presses, sandblasting, and other equipment as required.
  • Select proper heating coil and holding fixtures, adjust time cycle, voltage, current, and filament voltage on heater.
  • Regulate flow of coolant and prepare quenching media.
  • Prepare and apply flux to mating parts, inserting silver solder rings as required.
  • Immerse all parts in quenching media to obtain desired characteristics.
  • Remove excess flux and silver solder from parts.
  • Assemble parts for welding.
  • Responsible for quality of own work.
  • Perform other duties as required.
