The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) organization is seeking a Production Test Safety Leader to join our team in Seal Beach, CA. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing and leading safety hazard analyses using various risk analysis tools. This will include safety risk assessments of complex system and designs during the manufacturing and testing phase of a product and program. The focus will be on product and test safety in highly complex and dynamic lab and manufacturing environments supporting all Boeing Products across various Boeing Business Units. This position supports leadership and individual contributors to help them understand and apply their daily responsibilities within Boeing's Safety Management System (SMS). This position will also require the ability to work collaboratively across a broad section of program, site and functional capabilities to develop and provide product and service safety requirements in the design process and throughout the lifecycle of a program, with particular focus during the Product Test Lifecycle. The selected candidate will routinely work with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to assist in ensuring effectiveness of site safety plans, support incident notification processes, and investigate near miss and injury occurrences. You will collaborate with other Engineering and Production/Manufacturing SMS teams to ensure SMS principles and practices are demonstrated and applied by BT&E teams and interfacing business partners. You will also actively support managers and teammates with safety risk management and other SMS activities including avid promotion of Boeing's safety reporting programs such as Speak-Up and Enablon. The selected candidate will lead Safety Action Groups (SAGs), promote a positive safety culture, and actively apply all four SMS pillars.

  • Manage employees performing activities within multiple (2 or more) Engineering disciplines
  • Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals
  • Acquire resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of suppliers and lead process improvements
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes

  • Apply system safety engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and mitigate safety risk exposures in the lab and manufacturing environments
  • Identify potential hazards and assess likelihood and severity of system risks
  • Review engineering design specifications, test operations, change proposals, product and lab safety systemic risks and hazards
  • Analyze systems and designs to identify vulnerabilities and integrate safety features
  • Conduct effectiveness reviews to verify corrective actions are implemented and operating as intended
  • Develop and implement safety plans, procedures, and protocols
  • Apply working knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), MIL-STD-882 E risk analysis tools
  • Work with lab test and manufacturing capability leaders to support program test requirements
  • Participate in incident investigations and develop root cause/corrective actions
  • Lead SMS Safety Action Group (SAG) meetings
  • Support test preparation and operations including test hazard analysis, risk and identification of mitigations
  • Support hazard analyses & incident investigations addressing both isolated and systemic root causes including those associated with occupational safety
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Safety and/or Systems Engineering disciplines
  • 5+ years of experience leading or managing cross-functional or cross-organizational teams within engineering and/or test
  • Product safety or quality management experience, ideally with safety management systems, safety risk management processes and leading hazard analyses for novel systems
  • Experience performing analyses, preparing presentations and reports for program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
  • Experience presenting oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, and senior leadership
  • Experience implementing or managing an environmental, health and safety management system
