About The Position

The city of Las Vegas invites applications for Production Technician. This position performs a variety of technical tasks in support of theatrical and performing programs; reads plans; hangs, focuses, sets up and operates a variety of audio and lighting systems; constructs, transports, and sets up scenery and props; and maintains theater facilities and equipment. This is the full journey level class within the Production Technician series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Two years of professional technical experience working with performing arts programs.
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by training, certification or college level course work in theater lighting and production, or a field related to the essential functions.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
  • Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion of an OSHA-10 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention.
  • Must obtain valid CPR/AED certification, as well as city-approved First Aid certification, within 6 months of date of hire, and maintain thereafter.
  • Must complete City of Las Vegas defensive driver training course within 6 months of date of hire, and maintain thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in organizing, coordinating and providing technical production support at city-wide performing arts productions, special events or Council Chamber events.
  • Sets up, operates and strikes mobile stage, stage canopy, props, scenery, audio systems, lighting systems, truss systems and audio-visual equipment.
  • As assigned, sets up, installs, operates, and maintains all necessary equipment in Las Vegas City Hall for events and functions such as City Council meetings, Planning Commission meetings, department meetings, rentals and workshops.
  • As assigned, sets up, installs, operates, and maintains all necessary equipment in City of Las Vegas operated facilities for events and functions such as performances, exhibitions, department meetings, rentals, festivals and workshops.
  • Maintains production equipment and theater facilities including testing, calibrating, performing minor electrical repairs, painting, cleaning and performing basic repairs on equipment and facilities.
  • Sets up the power supply for productions and events in a safe manner.
  • Reads and interprets audio, lighting and scenery diagrams and plans; obtains or creates diagrams/blue-prints of the event facilities.
  • As instructed hangs and focuses lighting instruments; circuits lighting instruments into dimmer system; inputs lighting cues into lighting control system.
  • Determines the appropriate sound volume and other audio settings.
  • Constructs scenery, props and special request decorative items.
  • Maintains a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files; performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing and other general clerical work; prepares a variety of paperwork and reports.
  • Assists in maintaining and enforcing rules governing facilities and equipment.
  • Adapts to acoustic, lighting and other challenges at the venue and changes in production requirements as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with technical requirements of production and OSHA, fire and other safety regulations.
