Position Summary: The Production Technician will perform every part of the nitinol sheet production process with a high level of competence, quality, and precision. There will be an emphasis on programming, setup, and operation of the CNC Water Jet and Fanuc Wire EDM. Once basic competence is achieved, the Sheet Production Technician will be trained in aspects of the Sheet Production Supervisor’s job, including, but not limited to, reviewing and selecting material for release to the shop floor. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience measuring using digital calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
  • Proficiency in shop math, i.e. conversion between fraction and decimal, conversion between metric and imperial, can work with numbers which have up to 5 decimal places, and can define what a thousandth/hundredth/tenth of an inch is.
  • Able to lift at least 30lbs. independently.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of programming CNC machines, preferably using G-codes and 2D CAD and CAM software.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and/or operating CNC Wire EDM, CNC water jets, CNC laser cutters, and/or surface grinders is strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience using Microsoft Office applications in a professional setting, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to become forklift certified is preferred but not required.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work any shift (shifts are from 7:30AM-4:00PM, 3:30PM-12:00AM, and 11:30PM-8:00AM).
  • Willing and able to oversee and assist other operators as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand and follow procedures.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including minor repair and modifications.
  • Ability to coordinate with maintenance, engineering, quality, and lab personnel as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to operate the following machines at any given time: Wire EDM, CNC water jet, surface grinder, hot press, sheet rolling mill (both hot rolling and cold rolling), shear, cutoff saw, belt sander, annealing oven, and parts washer. Also preferred, but not required, is operation of acid etching equipment.
  • Willing and able to operate multiple machines simultaneously (when possible), once initial training is completed.
  • Perform sheet manufacturing responsibilities including:
  • Hot roll sheet
  • Cold roll sheet
  • Waterjet cutting
  • EDM use
  • Shear cutting
  • Clean Sheet Surface
  • Taper Sheet Edges
  • Surface Grind Sheet
  • Acid etch sheet
  • Anneal Sheet
  • Hot Press Annealing
  • Shipping preparation and final cleaning
  • Sheet Measuring using measuring equipment
  • Must correctly distinguish between different lots of material, and comprehend, follow, and fill out all paperwork as needed.
  • Candidate must consistently check his/her own work and make needed adjustments to consistently yield results which meet customer specifications.
  • Safely handle hazardous materials and wastes to carry out production processes.
  • Work safely and follow all safety procedures.
