About The Position

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Production Team Leader in Hagerstown, MD in support of our North American Vehicles projects, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. Core purpose: Lead the daily operations within the electrical installation duties to ensure accurate and timely electrical installs and electrical process with maximum efficiency. Provide coaching assistance to team members while maintaining all company policies and procedures. Production Team Leader will be responsible for the bench fabrication, routing and vehicle termination of electrical harness per manufacturer's specifications found in transit light and heavy rail vehicles. The position requires frequent lifting, climbing, standing, crouching, squatting, bending and kneeling. The position may require weekend and/or holiday work. This work must be done in accordance to accepted standards of the trade, supervisory direction, Company established procedures, practices, and specifications.

Requirements

  • 2+ yrs. experience, desired in light rail or transportation environment.
  • Experience in installation of electrical and mechanic equipment.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of assembly build practices and procedures.
  • Must have good mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of mechanical torque, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in precision measuring equipment i.e., caliper, micrometer etc.
  • Must have experience working within and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Experience with working in diverse and busy team environments.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and electrical schematics, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure and against deadlines.
  • Attention to quality control and customer service.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Self-motivated and ability to multi-task.

Nice To Haves

  • College/ Technical trade school degree/ certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Self-motivated and autonomous, expert level performance of installations of assigned work scope to the allocated methods times or better.
  • Performance of installations of assigned work scope to meet or exceed Hitachi Rail's quality standards, reducing recurrent defects with each installation.
  • Lead by example always demonstrating active adherence to all HSE standards and guidelines.
  • Supervise and train a team of electrical operators, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on production requirements.
  • Monitor team performance and provide feedback to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Present all relevant communications to team during 7:00 AM morning meeting including one-point lessons, quality red card alerts, and general communications cascaded by leadership.
  • Verify the attendance of all team members present at 7:00 AM morning meeting.
  • Escalate unplanned absenteeism and tardiness to immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure production processes run smoothly and meet output targets.
  • Monitor production metrics (e.g., output, quality, efficiency) implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Cascade production performance and corrective actions to team during 7:00 AM morning meeting.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., quality control, logistics) to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.
  • Assignment of employees to activities during 7:00 AM morning meeting taking into consideration attendance, allocated hours of activities, flexi-matrix training level of the employee's participating in the activities assigned and priorities of the manufacturing line provided by immediate supervisor.
  • Escalation of any blocking points that will delay the completion of build to the production planning schedule to your immediate supervisor.
  • Provide end of shift daily update of physical progress and inspection hold point cycle completion to immediate supervisor and align on priorities for the start of the next day.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Ensure all equipment and processes comply with industry standards and company policies.
  • Identify inefficiencies in production processes and propose solutions.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with supervisors/managers and engineering teams to upgrade equipment and systems and escalate as necessary.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in electrical operations.
  • Ensure products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and address any defects or issues.
  • Work closely with the quality control team to resolve production-related quality concerns.
  • Review and verify daily that all Manufacturing Inspection Plans (MIPs) are filled out correctly, with serialized tooling information, expiration dates, and the most up-to-date documentation matrix revisions.
  • Ensure that all drawings in your assigned work area are the latest revision based on the Station Documentation Revision Checklist provided by engineering.
  • Drive closure of open inspection findings for your assigned work area and ensure that rework is performed to appropriate Hitachi Quality Standards.
  • Escalate issues that cannot be resolved without assistance from supporting functions as necessary.
  • Communicate with an immediate supervisor as soon as the product is ready for inspection or buyback.
  • Communication of the readiness of defect buyback will be following verification that the master inspection defect list is properly filled out and all workable items have been completed.
