The Production Support & Development Technician II at Freeport-McMoRan plays a crucial role in supporting and optimizing mining processes through routine testing and data collection. This position involves working closely with laboratory and field instrumentation, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and contributing to the overall efficiency of mining operations.

  • Perform routine SX/EW and Leach testing functions under supervision.
  • Collect data and samples, which may include traveling to mine sites.
  • Prepare samples for analysis and run tests using established techniques.
  • Set up instruments and equipment for testing.
  • Conduct inspections and audits, including workplace and safety inspections.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Train and mentor other employees in laboratory tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory and field instrumentation, diagnosing problems, and ensuring proper supplies.
  • Compile, assign, track, ship, and receive materials as needed.
  • Lead site audits and support projects as required.
  • Enter data into spreadsheets and databases as necessary.
  • Follow MSHA and OSHA regulations and participate in safety activities.
  • One year of direct lab experience or an Associate's degree with six months of related lab experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment and protocols appropriate to assigned areas.
  • Ability to train others in specific lab tasks.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel for developing and maintaining documentation.
  • Experience with SX/EW and Leaching processes.
  • Experience operating mobile equipment and overhead cranes.
  • Experience with chemical sample preparation and analysis.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel to mine sites with occasional overnight stays.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001/EMS 14001/OHSAS 18001 environment.
