About The Position

The Production Supervisor will control the day-to-day packaging functions of the shift, coordinating the activities of employees engaged in the operation and support of a variety of production lines and systems. Responsible for monitoring progress to the production schedule and ensuring accurate reporting of employee safety, quality, department efficiency, labor utilization, materials, and related production standards, all of which are monitored and reported daily. The Production Supervisor is the primary point of coordination with support teams such as Maintenance, Human Resources, Quality and Safety. The Production Supervisor will work towards the achievement of company goals and objectives by ensuring company procedures and policies are followed related to labor regulations, OSHA/EPA Compliance, State, and local laws and ordinances relevant to the operation, staff, and food safety.

  • 3-4 years’ experience working in a manufacturing facility.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent-required.
  • Knowledge of food industry

  • Must be computer literate, Excel, Word, Google docs and Google meet.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Available to work extended hours when required.

  • Background and experience in flexographic manufacturing disciplines (Press, Ink, Pre-press, Finishing, etc.).
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • BS Degree in Business Administration or related field is desired.
  • Bilingual is preferred (English and Spanish) but not required.
  • Color management expertise a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with others in the organization such as other production supervisors, scheduler, warehouse, and plant management to ensure customer deadlines are met and resources are optimized.
  • Acts as a safety leader and put safety first in all responsibilities.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and provide feedback/ recognition to the line level team.
  • Inspects and measures efficiency of all facets of production, and packaging to verify conformance to standards; thus, seeking out inefficiencies and correcting them immediately for optimal shift performance. Compares their current run speeds, material scrap, and labor to make sure it is in accordance with the playbook and the outlined target.
  • Directs employees in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products which fail to meet standards. Ensures no adjustments are made without oversight and approval of the supervisors.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules by reassigning or releasing employees based on the demands of the job.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work issues or assists employees in solving work problems.
  • Assures that all employees are always following all Good Manufacturing Practices and Procedures.
  • Displays diligence and initiative to safety by reporting all accidents and near misses to the safety department on a timely basis. Encourages employee involvement by delegating accountability for safety procedures in the plant.
  • Leads all shift meetings to discuss schedule for the day and any safety training that is needed.
  • Document all training on each employee making sure they know what their job task consists of.
  • Facilitate daily debriefs with the staff.
  • Initiate personnel actions, such as performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures.
  • Meets with Plant Manager daily to go over the needs and schedule for the day.
  • Monitors changeovers and cleans between product to ensure efficiency, as well as compliance with SOP’s and food safety requirements, and reports results.
  • Identifies defects and provides/coordinates solutions for resolution with maintenance team.
  • Ensure compliance with Internal, Federal, State, and local guidelines and regulations including GMP, EPA, OSHA, FDA, and other related compliance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate and maintain Garlock's commitment to a Food Safe environment.
  • Directly supervises 15 to 30 employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, SOP’s, and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Participates in company activities to support and display unity throughout the organization.
