About The Position

The Production Supervisor at Smithfield Foods is responsible for overseeing production employees on assigned shifts, ensuring that production guidelines are met within established timing, quality, and cost standards. This role involves training, directing, and coaching the production team while maintaining safety and USDA health standards throughout the manufacturing process. The supervisor plays a key role in upholding the quality of Smithfield's products and driving team performance to maximize plant efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a supervisory role providing training, coaching, or mentoring.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Internet, Spreadsheet, Word, and Inventory software is preferred.
  • Previous food processing experience and understanding of yields and plant efficiencies is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, math, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to motivate, train, and coach employees for optimum performance.

  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production employees on assigned shifts to meet production guidelines.
  • Train, direct, coach, and lead the production team in day-to-day operations.
  • Perform daily walks and visual inspections of the production floor to identify unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Maintain safety/environmental self-audits and champion safety activities for the department.
  • Ensure all staff understand the Food Safety and Food Quality plans.
  • Train employees on safe operating procedures, including lock-out and tag-out.
  • Adhere to product specification requirements throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain knowledge of products and equipment to direct employees effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA regulations, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Hold monthly line meetings to address questions and concerns from the team.
  • Work with Operations Managers to maintain knowledge of yields and variances.
  • Suggest changes in workflow processes to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
