About The Position

The Production Shift Lead is responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing the daily production activities of 2nd shift hourly employees at Simcote, Inc. This hands-on leadership role ensures that production targets are met safely, on time, and in accordance with established quality standards. The Shift Lead serves as the primary point of contact for all 2nd shift operations, providing real-time supervision, training, troubleshooting, and communication between the production floor and management. This position requires a proactive leader who can balance operational demands with employee development and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of lead, supervisory, or team lead experience in a production setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Ability to read and interpret production schedules, work orders, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift schedule consistently, including overtime as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move about the production floor for the duration of the shift (8–10 hours).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly; occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and moving machinery.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and gloves as required.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate production equipment, hand tools, and computer/tablet for data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review daily production requirements from the Production Manager; plan and prioritize shift workflow to meet or exceed output targets.
  • Lead, direct, and coordinate the activities of hourly production employees throughout the shift, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
  • Perform hands-on production duties as needed to meet daily goals and model expected work standards for the team.
  • Monitor all products manufactured during the shift to ensure compliance with approved quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Complete and maintain all required production records, logs, and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for new, temporary, and existing employees; coach team members to develop skills, improve proficiency, and support career growth.
  • Ensure all employees perform duties in a safe manner, complying with company safety policies and OSHA regulations; conduct regular safety observations and correct unsafe behaviors immediately.
  • Monitor and manage shift attendance; notify the Operations Manager and Production Manager of absences and implement contingency plans to maintain production continuity.
  • Address employee questions, concerns, and grievances in a professional and timely manner; foster positive communication and morale within the department and across shifts.
  • Monitor inventory of raw materials, supplies, and components to meet production needs; report shortages or discrepancies to the Operations Manager promptly.
  • Conduct routine inspections of department equipment; report mechanical issues to the Operations, Production, and Maintenance Managers and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs or part replacements as needed when maintenance personnel are unavailable.
  • Keep the Operations Manager and Production Manager informed of all matters affecting or potentially affecting department efficiency, quality, or safety.
  • Maintain department discipline consistent with company policies; recommend and discuss appropriate corrective or disciplinary actions with the Operations Manager.
  • In the absence of the Operations Manager, exercise authority to suspend employees for serious infractions of company policy, report all actions taken promptly upon their return.
  • Perform Fabrication Inspector duties as required, ensuring all fabrication forms and inspection documentation are completed daily.
  • Support and uphold all company decisions, policies, and procedures; serve as a role model for professionalism and accountability on the production floor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the successful operation of the department.
