About The Position

As the Production Planning Engineer at Schuff Steel, you'll play an essential role in helping the organization develop and execute plans to meet steel fabrication needs. This position is tasked with scheduling and progressing all steps required for steel fabrication through product delivery.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read fabrication/shop drawings.
  • Proficient with use of the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Able to read and understand the information in a shop backlog, shipping schedule, and project status report.
  • Proficiency with the use of and 2 or more of ProNest, Pedinest, Raptor, Steel Projects, Columbus, or Vacaam
  • Basic experience with Tekla and/or AutoCAD
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 5+ years of experience working with an MRP system specific to the structural steel industry
  • 7+ years in Production Control environment or equivalent manufacturing planning department
  • 5+ years of experience programming for CNC machines (machines specific to the structural steel industry preferred). Operator experience may be considered in lieu of programming experience.
  • 7+ years of experience nesting/multing material for materials processing
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Position will require the frequent use and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Tekla, AutoCAD, ProNest, Pedinest, Raptor, Steel Projects, Columbus, or Vacaam.
  • Detailed Knowledge of beam line operation
  • Detailed knowledge of plate processing machine operation
  • Detailed understanding of various steel fabrication means and methods.
  • Understanding of how to track material costs against a budget.
  • Understanding of the differences between and Advance Bill of Materials and Production Bill of Materials
  • A clean driving record will be required due to required road travel.
  • A current and valid driver’s license and proof of acceptable insurance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Builds Fabrication Schedules for new projects.
  • Maintains Fabrication Schedules based on progress of integral activities.
  • Runs “What-if?” scenarios for fabrication assignments to various shops.
  • Analyzes shop productivity and works with Plant Manager(s) to improve as needed.
  • Coordinates with various departments and aligns Fab Schedules with other departmental scheduling tools.
  • Advises on opportunities for productivity improvements.
  • Utilizes manpower resource loading to forecast shop manpower needs.
  • Facilitate and/ or participated in Project Meetings regarding schedule progress.
  • Develop fabrication indicators to measure shop performance.
  • Interfaces with Project Manager and necessary departments to assist in the scheduling of work and materials to and from sub-fabricators.
  • Tracks, understands, and reports on sub-fabricator’s adherence to the project schedule.
  • Works closely with Project Team in evaluating changes to the scope of work and impacts to the production schedule.
