We are a fast-growing Southern California technology innovator that solves tough, mission-critical challenges for our customers in the aerospace, defense, and commercial markets. We design, develop, and manufacture advanced products for ground, maritime, and airborne applications. The Production Planner is responsible for leading production planning and materials control to support daily manufacturing operations. The Production Planning ensures that material schedules, material availability, and system data within MRP/ERP are aligned to meet build requirements and on-time delivery targets. The position focuses on coordinating demand, supply, and production execution by translating requirements into actionable plans, supporting Work Orders, and ensuring materials and resources are available when needed. This role works closely with production, purchasing, quality, and engineering to resolve shortages, adjust priorities, and keep builds moving through the system efficiently. This is a hands-on role that requires active involvement in planning activities, MRP/ERP transactions, and day-to-day production support within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
  • 7-9 years in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience in production planning, materials, or purchasing
  • Hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems (Costpoint strongly preferred)
  • Experience in aerospace, electronics, or high-mix / low-volume manufacturing preferred
  • Experience in DoD purchasing, such as FAR and DFAR
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of production flow, material control, and supply chain operations
  • Strong communication across engineering, production, and supply chain teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under short deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong MRP/ERP and system discipline

Responsibilities

  • Production Planning Ensure material availability aligns with production schedules and production demand
  • Works together with Inventory to support the creation, release, and ongoing management of Manufacturing Orders (MOs) within Costpoint
  • Monitor MO status, identify risks, and coordinate with production to drive timely resolution
  • Partner with production teams to maintain schedule alignment and priority execution
  • Support prototype, NPI, and production builds through proper planning and system setup
  • ERP / Costpoint Management Serve as a key user and functional lead for MRP/ ERP related to planning and materials
  • Maintain and manage BOMs, part data, demand signals, and supply parameters within MRP/ERP
  • Ensure accurate transaction flow including reservations, issues, completions, and closures
  • Drive process improvements within MRP/ERP to improve efficiency and visibility
  • Materials and Supply Chain Coordination Initiate and maintain purchase requisitions in MRP/ERP to support production and forecasted demand
  • Drive RFQ (Request for Quote) activities for new or constrained parts, working with Purchasing to obtain quotes, evaluate options, and support supplier selection
  • Partner with Purchasing to support sourcing, alternate parts, and supplier performance
  • Review shortages, drive mitigation actions, and support expediting when required
  • Analyze demand, forecasts, and inventory to support planning decisions
  • Support surge, ramp-up, and critical program needs
  • Cross-Functional Support Work closely with Engineering on BOM accuracy, part changes, and new product releases
  • Support Quality and Receiving with inspection priorities and material issues
  • Assist Finance with cost tracking, reporting, and inventory accuracy
  • Participate in production meetings and provide clear status on builds, risks, and constraints
  • Data, Metrics and Continuous Improvement Develop and track KPIs related to planning, material readiness, and on-time delivery
  • Analyze production and materials data to identify gaps and improve performance
  • Support implementation of standardized planning and material control processes
  • Drive improvements in MRP/ ERP utilization
  • Leadership and Execution Supervise, assign and monitor tasks, and prioritize work for an assistant planner
  • Support assistant planner development while maintaining accountability for results
  • Additional Responsibilities Maintain professional relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Support audits, compliance requirements, and documentation needs
